How should I store my insulin pens?
New (unused) pens:
- Keep new pens in the fridge until you are ready to use them.
- Throw away insulin pens that are past their expiration dates, even if they were stored in the fridge.
Used pens:
- Keep used pens at room temperature in your kitchen or bedroom.
- Keep away from light and heat.
- Check each insulin pen’s guide to see how long each type of insulin lasts at room temperature. They may not be the same.
- Never store your pen with the needle on.
