What are ways I can lower my risk for diabetes problems?
Here are some important ways you can lower your risk for diabetes problems:
- Take your diabetes medicine. Follow your healthcare team’s plan for when and how much you should take. 
- Check your blood glucose daily. Follow you healthcare team’s plan for when to check each day. 
- Plan healthy meals (see image below). 
- Get active! Stand up. Move around. Sit less. Set a goal to be active for about 20-30 minutes each day. 
- Visit your eye doctor at least once a year. 
- Check your feet for cuts or sores daily. Let your doctor know if you find a cut or sore. 
- Visit your doctor at least twice a year to check your blood pressure and cholesterol. You may need medicine to lower your blood pressure or cholesterol. 
- Get help to quit smoking. If you smoke, quitting can reduce your risk of heart disease and strokes.
